Disposable Democrats
Former U.S. Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-14) joins the ranks of Democrats jettisoned in the name of the party.
Nikita Khrushchev went on a short holiday. It wasn’t easy being the post-Stalin leader of the USSR. When he came home, he was denounced and soon replaced by Leonid Brezhnev. The latter had conspired in Khrushchev's absence to get the Politburo to replace the bald maverick, and the off-ramp was set before the outgoing party leader returned to Moscow. His son said that his father was furious, threw his briefcase, and swore like a Russian. When the party is above all, everyone becomes expendable.
There are many differences between the current iterations of the Democratic and Republican parties. One that stands out is the centrality of the party over the party functionaries. With the Democrats, an individual is only as good as he can advance the interests of the party. When people like Harvey Weinstein, Joe Biden, and Eric Swalwell outlived their usefulness, they were jettisoned as if they had never been known. Until the first and only 2024 debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, we were told that the latter was sharp as a tack, in charge, coherent, and thoughtful. When Trump said that he didn’t know what Biden answered and that Biden also didn’t know, the show was over. Immediately, the sitting president was described as clueless and not all there. The same media that had sworn that the president was as fit as a fiddle let us know that Joe Biden was showing signs of dementia and that his “Big Guy” dealings may not have been so kosher. Biden had his final revenge by choosing Kamala Harris to run in his place, something that Pelosi and Obama had not wanted. She had zero primary votes but was the nominee.
One might say that the Republicans are no better. But is it so? U.S. Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert (CO-4) thoroughly embarrassed herself, but here she is still in Congress. Many in the GOP tried to get rid of Donald Trump........
