Editorial: State must improve access to mental health care
News that the Center for Disability Services plans to discontinue psychiatric care is just the latest evidence of shrinking access to desperately needed mental-health services.
The center is well aware of the consequences. CEO Gregory Sorrentino told the Times Union's Lilli Iannella that his organization feels terrible about cutting services and did what it could to prevent it. But a shortage of providers and Medicaid payments frozen since 2007 — 18 years! — left the Albany-based nonprofit with little choice.
