U.S. Supreme Court rules "ghost gun" kits can be regulated.

Might last week’s ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court regarding make-your-own gun kits sold online be the final nail in the coffin of the cottage weapons industry known as “ghost guns”?

One can only hope.

Ghost guns, which exploded onto the marketplace in the mid-2000s, allow people to build nearly untraceable weapons from blueprints and parts sold online. In the 7-2 opinion issued Wednesday, the high court said kits like the so-called “Buy, Build, Shoot” package must be subject to what’s called the “frame and receiver” rule. That rule requires companies to treat the kits like other firearms by adding serial numbers, running background checks on buyers and verifying that they’re 21 or older.

This ruling comes as the use of ghost guns in crimes has soared. According to an Associated Press story citing U.S. Department of Justice data, fewer than 1,700 ghost guns........
