Commentary: Community health centers need the state's help

Each year, community health centers serve 2.4 million New Yorkers from nearly 900 sites across the state. They provide essential primary care, behavioral health services and preventive care to patients who might otherwise go without. Community health centers offer a lifeline to every New Yorker, particularly those with no other options for accessing health care.
But after more than two decades of underinvestment, that lifeline is fraying. If New York fails to act now, some of these health centers may not survive — leaving residents without the care they need.
