Churchill: Corey Ellis is running for Albany mayor

ALBANY — At noon on Tuesday, Common Council President Corey Ellis will announce his candidacy for mayor in the State Street space that once housed Jack’s Oyster House — and yes, the location is intentionally symbolic.
A theme of Ellis' coming campaign will be that Albany is sliding backward, as evidenced by, among other things, the vacant storefront that until 2022 was home to the city’s oldest and most vaunted restaurant.
“We have not fulfilled the potential of this city, the capital city in the state of New York,” Ellis said during a conversation Monday. “We’re missing the mark.”

Ellis, a Democrat, becomes at least the fourth candidate to announce a campaign ahead of the June primary.
His major opponents, so far, are City Auditor Dorcey Applyrs, widely seen as an ally of Mayor Kathy Sheehan; former technology executive Dan Cerutti, who, without elective office experience, is the outsider in the race critical of city government; and county Legislator Carolyn McLaughlin, who, as I said © Times Union
