Churchill: Andrew Cuomo is back, same as ever

ALBANY — Andrew Cuomo’s status as the front-runner in the New York City mayor’s race vindicates his decision to resign in 2021.
With the then-governor plagued by scandal and sexual harassment allegations, an impeachment trial was looming and Cuomo’s many enemies were licking their chops. Had that trial brought new revelations or a conviction, as seemed likely, Cuomo’s political career would have ended.

But he ducked that guillotine and lived to fight another day.
That day came with Cuomo’s campaign announcement video, released last weekend. Oh, sure, he quickly and vaguely admitted to mistakes and claimed they’d made him a better person. But mostly, Cuomo seemed like the same guy Albany knew and mostly didn’t love.
It was even striking how often Cuomo repeated themes he uttered during his gubernatorial launch in 2010. Today, as then, he argues that the Democrats who control government are failing and he is the man with the fix. Today, as then, the dolts in office are incompetent, foolish and perhaps corrupt, while he’s experienced, impatient with frivolities and focused on........
