Sandra Richardson: Let’s stand up for the charitable sector in times of uncertainty
These past weeks have been a roller coaster of uncertainty and shifting priorities creating ripples of uncertainty for every community across the country.
In times like these, the philanthropic sector is often one of the first sectors overlooked, and in times of turbulence we are reminded of the power of community. These moments bring us together to support every sector, including charities who constantly work to meet challenges, spark innovation, and prove that when we invest in them, we all thrive.
As I reflect on past economic challenges, I see how quickly Victoria comes together to support one another. This instinct is not unique to Victoria; however, I often hear from other community leaders how special and strong our response is, and how the people in our region band together during challenging times. The Rapid Relief Fund is one recent example of this. The community donated and distributed $6 million dollars in 6 weeks through the fund held at the Victoria Foundation thanks to over 15,000........
