New Delhi: Social activist Amit Bhatnagar, who led the agitation against the Ken-Betwa river interlinking project, is continuing his hunger strike from his hospital bed.

As on Thursday, July 23, Amit Bhatnagar is on the 18th day of his hunger strike. He is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Madhya Pradesh’s Chhattarpur District Hospital, where he was admitted on July 19. Though he was to be discharged this morning, hospital authorities have not yet permitted his discharge, his brother told The Wire in the afternoon.

Indefinite hunger strike continues

“He is still in the ICU. He was to have been discharged today, but hospital authorities have not done so and they haven’t given a reason why,” Ankit Bhatnagar, the brother of Amit Bhatnagar, told The Wire over phone on July 23. He suggested that this could be due to hospital authorities coming under pressure from the police.

Amit Bhatnagar was to leave the hospital and travel to the nearby town of Bijawar, 40 kilometres from Chhatarpur, to meet with villagers and activists to decide on further action for the agitation against the Ken-Betwa........
