Election Day in Bengal and Tamil Nadu: Reports of Violence at Domkol, Voters Queue Up in Chennai

Tamil Nadu and West Bengal are both voting today, April 23. Both states are run by parties opposed to the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is looking to dislodge the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Trinamool Congress.
In Bengal, BJP’s efforts are compounded by a special intensive revision of voter rolls, as a result of which 90 lakh names are removed – 27 lakh of them are under adjudication.
According to EC data, 18.76% voter turnout was recorded till 9 am in Bengal. Tamil Nadu recorded 17.69% voter turnout by 9 am.
