Haredi extremists demonstrate outside Military Police chief’s home, 2 weeks after breaking into it

Ultra-Orthodox extremists demonstrated for a second time outside the home of Military Police Chief Brig. Gen. Yuval Yamin in Ashkelon on Thursday night, two weeks after breaching his residence while rioting over the arrests of yeshiva students for evading mandatory military conscription.

The IDF said it “strongly condemns” the protests and that the Military Police “will continue to carry out its missions and operate according to the law.”

“The IDF strongly condemns any attempt to harm members of the security forces and their family members, and will continue to support Brig. Gen. Yuval Yamin, who is carrying out his duties faithfully,” the military said in a statement.

Footage of Thursday’s demonstration showed a small group of Haredi men protesting outside of Yamin’s home, then scrambling to avoid police. The Ynet outlet reported that one demonstrator was detained by police and released a short while later.

The protest follows one that took place at Yamin’s home on April 28, as part of nationwide demonstrations organized by the Haredi extremist Jerusalem Faction against the arrests of ultra-Orthodox men for draft evasion.
