In 93 days, Israel will conduct an election which is probably one of the most, if not the most, consequential in the country’s 78-year history.

Those of us living here, along with the many Israelis living abroad who will travel here to participate in the October 27th balloting (there is no absentee voting in Israeli elections), will need to make a choice that will most likely dictate whether Israel will continue to grow and thrive successfully as it has these past 78 years or, heaven forbid, sink further into the morass in which we find ourselves today.

We can, of course, make a mistake and choose more of the same and vote for the current Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu along with his Likud sycophants and allies in order to experience a continuation of the failed policies of the recent past.

Netanyahu, who has served as Pime Minister for a cumulative total of 19 years across three separate eras (1996 to 1999, 2009 to 2021, and from December 2022 to the present) offers voters simply more of the same — continuing attacks on the judiciary, fear-mongering over Arab citizens voting, continual war on multiple fronts, a deeper dependence on his religious and far-right partners along with Israel’s continuing descent to becoming a pariah state among the nations of the world.

Yet even if life here was perfect and the country faced no problems of any kind, no leader should remain at the helm of a democracy for 19 years.  That length of service alone is prima facie evidence that it is time........
