Living in a small town or a remote outpost strips away the luxury of passive belonging. When you live in a dense metropolitan center, Jewish infrastructure is ambient—it surrounds you whether you actively contribute to it or not. On the periphery, however, Jewish life does not run on institutional momentum. It runs entirely on the shoulders of individuals who decide to show up, take responsibility, and do the heavy lifting themselves.
