Turkish President Concludes Two-Day Visit to Pakistan, Strengthening Pakistan-Turkey Relations
Islamabad—Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has concluded his two-day official visit to Pakistan, marking a significant step in strengthening diplomatic, economic, and strategic ties between the two nations. During the visit, both countries signed 24 agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering diverse sectors.
Expansion of Trade and Economic Cooperation
Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on Thursday, where these agreements were formalized, President Erdoğan emphasized his commitment to enhancing bilateral trade. “We intend to increase mutual trade between our nations to $5 billion,” he stated. He also met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House, where discussions focused on trade, investment, and defense cooperation.
Following the signing ceremony, President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a joint press conference, reiterating their dedication to deepening Pakistan-Turkey relations.
President Zardari Highlights Strategic Importance of Visit
President Asif Ali Zardari, while hosting his Turkish counterpart at Aiwan-e-Sadr, expressed gratitude for Turkey’s continued support and emphasized that Erdoğan’s visit was of special significance to the Pakistani people. He further noted that the visit would help strengthen the already robust bilateral relationship.
During their discussions, President Erdoğan thanked Pakistan for its unwavering support on the Cyprus issue and underscored the importance of resolving the Kashmir dispute through dialogue in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
