Elwood Watson: Will Trump swoop in and save the Tates?

Andrew and Tristan Tate, the far-right social media influencers and self-described misogynists who command a following of young, angry men on the internet, were arrested in Miami on July 18 on rape and sex trafficking charges from the United Kingdom.

The Tates will be held in custody in Florida as they challenge an extradition claim. British law enforcement announced that the brothers face 59 charges between them, including choking and raping women.

Andrew Tate faces further charges relating to “indecent images of a child and extreme pornography.” Such supplemental charges have been issued to a litany of prior ones, including a 2022 arrest in Romania on rape and sex trafficking; however, that case was dismissed on legal grounds as prosecutors continue to investigate disturbing allegations.

Both brothers have denied all wrongdoing, but the allegations paint an abominable portrait of an expansive pornography empire based on physical brutality and a misogynist worldview they feed to boys and young men worldwide.

All this creates a high-profile dilemma for the Trump administration. Will President Trump and his affiliates permit the men to be held accountable for their actions, including possible incarceration in the United Kingdom, or will........
