Scott Begbie: Forget going abroad a simple trip on Stonehaven’s Land Train showed me the real magic is on our own doorstep

“Be a tourist in your own town” is a phrase that’s getting a bit of traction to encourage folk to discover the wonders on their own doorstep. So I did.

Which is how I ended up spending a rather splendid Saturday afternoon on the Stonehaven Land Train.

For those unfamiliar with this wonderful wee attraction, it does exactly what it says on the tin. A vibrant blue and white mini train engine pulls several colourful carriages full of passengers through the streets of Stoney, with horns tooting and bells ringing.

I’ve seen it go past a few times, always full of smiling folk, quick to wave at passers-by. The waving bit is mandatory, we were told as we clambered on.

And it’s a brilliant trip to take, full of great facts about Stonehaven’s many landmarks and attractions as it........
