I spent Monday morning at a breakfast hosted by the prediction market company Kalshi. At an event space in Manhattan with soaring ceilings and tables stacked with bagel towers, Emily Oster, a best-selling parenting writer and economist, and the Kalshi co-founder Luana Lopes Lara had a conversation billed as being about “how data, forecasting and probabilities can sharpen our choices,” which promised to “tackle parents’ questions about prediction markets.”
