The US Navy Is Testing a New Low-Cost, Long-Endurance Submarine Drone

The US Navy plans to invest heavily in long-endurance drones to augment its fleet of manned vessels.

If President Donald Trump has his way, the United States Navy’s future “Golden Fleet” could have as many as 25 Trump-class battleships in service by the mid-2030s. If constructed, the costs could be staggering. However, the US Navy isn’t fully committed to building just expensive warships, and plans call for the manned fleet to be supported primarily by far more affordable uncrewed systems.

One such example is the “HADALUS,” a low-cost, long-endurance unmanned undersea vehicle (UUV) now under development.
