Earlier this month, the Department of the Air Force confirmed the two future sites to be the first to receive nuclear microreactors under the Pentagon’s Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations (APNI) program. The sites included Buckley Space Force Base (SFB), Colorado, and Malmstrom Air Force Base (AFB), Montana.

On Wednesday, the DAF and the Defense Innovation Unit further announced that Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, would serve as the third location to site a nuclear microreactor under the Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations (ANPI) initiative.
