Across Azad Jammu and Kashmir, rallies and seminars were held to mark Right of Self-Determination Day, with participants urging the United Nations to implement its January 5 resolution on Kashmir, which calls for an impartial plebiscite to allow the people of the region to decide their future. Nearly eight decades on, Kashmir remains the open wound of the 1947 partition, a land marked by occupation, repression, and sustained brutality that increasingly mirrors the Israeli occupation and devastation of Palestine.

Kashmir is a divided people on a besieged land, and the consequences of that division extend far beyond its borders. This unresolved dispute continues to keep the entire South Asian region on edge. It must be reiterated, year after year and at every available forum,........
