Why I’m hopeful about the future of children’s health in New York
Recently, at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, my colleagues performed a landmark heart surgery that saved the life of a minutes-old baby. The baby had a severe heart defect that, in all likelihood, would have led to the child’s passing soon after birth. But with surgical ingenuity and a symphony of collaboration among two dozen specialists, a first-ever heart surgery was performed successfully, with the baby expected to live a fulfilling life.
It’s moments like this that make me hopeful about the future of children’s health.
It seems like nearly every week, there’s a news alert about something that’s bad for children’s health: another school shooting, virus case surges, obesity or adolescent mental health........
