READERS FORUM: School system failing kids with mental health issues

On Monday, September 14th, my daughter walked into her public school for the first time since being discharged from intensive mental health treatment.

By lunchtime, her PTSD and anxiety had escalated so severely that my wife had to pick her up early. That single morning triggered her intrusive thoughts and deepened her depression.

It was a clear sign: this school environment is not safe for her.

My daughter has been diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, and depression—conditions that have led to cutting and multiple suicide attempts.

She was discharged from Newport Academy in Massachusetts on July 27th and just completed intensive outpatient care at Four Winds Saratoga on September 11th.

During treatment, she received schooling in a therapeutic........
