Columnist now supports free speech

John Figliozzi’s Sept. 28 column, (“American corporations fail to defend the Constitution,”) seems well meaning as he meanders about misunderstanding corporations, philosophical roots of the revolution and the Constitution.

I join him in believing the government should not be pressuring any company to limit speech whether it’s about assassins, climate change or covid. I would go so far as to say Brendan Carr should be fired and the FCC should be shuttered.

I am also delighted that Mr. Figliozzi has now embraced free speech and opposes canceling speakers. This is a far cry from his Feb. 7, 2021, column claiming cancel culture is no different than prior practices of boycotts and shunning. Bravo, John, for seeing the light.

He is wrong, though, about corporations defending the Constitution. The sole purpose of corporations is to make a profit for the owners like union pension funds, teacher’s retirements, workers 401K accounts and retirees IRAs who invest in stocks.
