Boycott donors over Kennedy Center coup
I just (Jan. 2) watched a PBS Newshour segment about artist cancellations at the so-called “Donald J. Trump-John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.”
For balance, they brought in Richard Grennell, the center’s current president. He bragged about the increased corporate funding, so that now they can afford to bring in performers like the Stuttgart Ballet and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
Any corporation that has donated since the Trump coup should be boycotted and divested from until it is forced to shut down.
Also, on New Year’s night, the Vienna Philharmonic was conducted by Yannick Nézet-Seguin, who has also conducted the Philadelphia Orchestra at SPAC.
If the Vienna Philharmonic does not cancel its appearance for Trump, then it will be time to boycott the Philadelphia Orchestra at SPAC.
Find a way to bring back Gershon’s deli
How could this happen? Gershon’s was more than a deli. It was a meeting place, it was a catering business, it was a great attraction on upper Union Street.
Surely, there must be some way to revive this beloved Schenectady landmark. Let me share with you just how important Gershon’s is to us. About 15 years ago when my husband and I were looking for a house in Schenectady, we decided that it had to be within walking distance of Gershon’s.
Upper Union Street used to have diverse businesses — Mussler’s and Gershon’s were both very special. Now they are gone.
The proliferation of smoking/cannabis shops is not the direction in which Upper Union Street should be moving.
The city needs to find a way to bring back Gershon’s.
