Horrors of 9/11 remain fresh today
I originally wrote this on Sept. 13, 2001.
How do you know where to begin and how to come to the end of this story when the beginning has yet to end? It plays over and over in my head, like a needle stuck in the groove of an old record.
Every person who was touched by Sept. 11, a beautiful fall day with clear skies, will never forget where they were and what they were doing when those horrible events occurred. I knew none of them, yet I mourn them all. The sight of the towers, the men, their wives, husbands and children brings instant tears to my eyes and sorrow to my heart.
I loved those towers for their beauty and hope, dreams the whole world stood for. In a moment you would stare out at the most beautiful sunset silhouetted by the Statue of Liberty and people from all over the world would stare at not only the beauty of the sunset but the fact that we all enjoyed it at the same moment. The buildings may be gone, but the memories will........
