Library systems not acting in public interest

I am an avid reader. There are four books due out in February that I would like to read.

I searched the SCPL catalog for the titles so I could place a hold and none of the four were listed. The MVLS catalog did list all four titles, but I was not allowed to reserve them online.

I then drove to the nearest branch of the MVLS and was told that I could not place a hold on any of them because they were not yet available.

Unless I misunderstood, I was also told that if any of the titles were not to be held by that particular branch, I may have to wait up to six months because the assigned branch would keep the book for their patrons.

I am a patron of the system(s), not any particular branch. My choice of branch is only for convenience. Since their divorce, I have tried working with both systems and it’s frustrating to this 83-year-old.

From what I’ve heard and my own experiences, I don’t think the library systems in our area are serving the needs of the reading public.

I also believe that the SCPL has failed in its attempt to reinvent the wheel.

Trump reveals the full level of his hypocrisy

Well, “Jenny bar the door!” It certainly makes sense that the president will not take a stronger position in support of Ukraine or against Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.

He wanted to show bullies what a bully looks like.

One must be awed by lack of intelligible pretense, as if real drug interdiction can be achieved by blowing up one small boat at a time.

I mean, why bother with arrests and proof when you can reduce a boat to cinders and kill everyone on board without a trial?

How can one not marvel at the explicitness of intention when the president crows that the United States has taken over management of Venezuela, including its massive oil........
