We all need to say what we’ll do better

Today people are tossing around two sayings: “We need to do better!” and “We need to pray for the country.”

These are meaningless phrases unless we (individual Americans) pray that I will model God’s grace and I will live the “Golden Rule.”

We have failed to do better for 249 years. We massacred Indigenous populations, enslaved Africans, enforced Jim Crow, interred citizens, marginalized immigrants, and restricted access to voting, housing, and credit.

We have not lived up to America’s creed, “That all men (and women) are created equal.”
