EDITORIAL: State must step up oversight of pet boarding facilities

You drop your beloved family dog off at a local boarding facility as you head off to that family vacation.

You feel bad driving away with the backseat empty. But the place looks decent, doesn’t smell terribly bad, and has decent Yelp reviews.

You come back refreshed from your break and you go to pick up your lovie, only to find them sick, filthy, undernourished or a combination of the three. Or worse than worse, you’re told that the pet you couldn’t wait to cuddle again had died while you were away.

Sadly, this has happened locally, and recently.
