Tata and Murugappa’s chip race starts with what India doesn’t have
Axiro Semiconductor has had a good year.
The spearhead of Chennai-based Murugappa Group’s entry into chipmaking contributed about Rs 500 crore to the top line of its parent CG Power in FY26. This comprised 4% of CG Power’s revenue, and CEO Naveen Yandaru expects Axiro’s revenue to grow by 25% in FY27.
Not a bad start for a year-old company that could emerge, in short order, as a key component of India’s ambitious plan to host a globally competitive semiconductor industry.
