PM calls for early cessation of hostilities
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held a series of high-level telephonic conversations with key leaders of West Asia amid the rapidly escalating regional situation, stressing the urgent need for peace, stability and protection of civilians.
Modi held a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, to discuss the current regional situation. During the call, the Prime Minister conveyed India’s concerns regarding recent developments and emphasised the safety of civilians as a priority. The Prime Minister Modi further reiterated India’s position on the need for an early cessation of hostilities.
The Prime Minister also spoke with the King of Bahrain, Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Bin Salman, strongly condemning the recent attacks on both countries that violated their sovereignty and territorial integrity.
During these conversations, Modi emphasised that the earliest restoration of peace and stability in West Asia is of utmost importance. He thanked both leaders for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian community living in their countries during the current tensions.
In a message shared publicly, Modi noted that India stands in solidarity with the people of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia in this difficult hour and reaffirmed India’s commitment to regional peace and security. He also acknowledged the support extended by the two nations to Indian nationals residing there.
The telephonic outreach comes in the backdrop of the recent military escalation following strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel, and the subsequent retaliatory missile attacks launched by Iran towards Israel and several other countries in the region, including Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Earlier, the Prime Minister had also spoken to the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as part of India’s ongoing diplomatic engagement with regional partners to de-escalate tensions and ensure stability across West Asia.
