Greta Thunberg’s Gaza flotilla was a statement, but was it the right one?
WHEN Greta Thunberg first came on the scene in 2018 sitting outside Sweden’s Parliament buildings wearing her iconic yellow coat and holding a sign which read ‘School Strike for Climate’, I’ll be the first to admit I was impressed.
At just 15 years old she quickly became the face of the youth climate movement with her forthright opinions and no-nonsense attitude sparking protests across the globe and compelling more young people to fight against the very real climate threat facing the world today.
However, since graduating from high school in 2023, Thunberg’s focus has shifted to other global concerns. She has been outspoken about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine - standing outside the Russian embassy in Stockholm in February 2022 holding a sign saying ‘Stand with Ukraine’. More recently she has expressed her support for Palestine amid the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
