THE DUP response to the latest stunt by the Moygashel Morons – placing a mock cardboard mosque on their bonfire to be burnt – provided a classic example of the party’s failure of leadership and its political cowardice.

First, instead of the party leader or even a Stormont minister coming out with a forthright condemnation of the vile hate crime, the party issued a statement.

That meant the media had to try to find a spokesperson to interview about the stunt.

The statement, and later comments, were couched in general terms, ignoring the controversy.

“The DUP supports the right of people to express lawful political opinions, even where those opinions are controversial or unpopular. Where the law is broken, it should be enforced. Where views are expressed lawfully, they should not be censored simply because some find them offensive.

“The 11th of July bonfires are a historic and cultural tradition… The placing of flags, effigies or other items on bonfires is not part of that tradition and should not take place.”

Someone mention Moygashel, maybe?

Every other party except, predictably, the unspeakable TUV, specifically condemned the despicable use of a replica........
