Police respond to ‘swatting’ call at Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s home

Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett was the victim of a swatting call Wednesday night at her Virginia home, according to local police. 

Police radio traffic shows law enforcement received a call for a “suspicious noise of gunshots” at Barrett’s suburban Virginia address. The dispatcher warned responding officers shortly afterward that a “high priority resident of the county” lived there and that the report may not be authentic.

When reached for comment, Fairfax County Police confirmed it was a swatting incident. 

“Swatting” involves falsely calling emergency services to report a serious criminal threat, with the goal of drawing a significant law enforcement response. The tactic has increasingly targeted public officials across the political spectrum, including prominent judges.
