The Trump administration is ramping up its pressure campaign against Iran on Monday, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent set to unveil new sanctions in what has been dubbed an “economic D-Day.”

The operation is aimed at crippling Tehran’s economy and squeezing allies that continue to support the Islamic Republic as the war nears the six-month mark. Bessent will speak at 2 p.m. EDT.

The move could also put China in the crosshairs as Iran’s largest trading partner and primary buyer of its oil, as the Trump administration seeks to force Tehran to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Tensions are also rising between the U.S. and Canada as the two nations trade fresh tariff threats. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has denounced Trump’s latest levies, as Ottawa weighs retaliation.
