Live updates: Iran truce talks at risk after tense weekend

With less than two days until a ceasefire between the U.S., Israel and Iran expires, prospects for peace are threatened.

Iran’s military is threatening to retaliate after the U.S. seized one of its cargo ships traveling through the Gulf of Oman over the weekend. 

Vice President Vance, with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, are expected to travel to Islamabad for a second round of peace negotiations with Iranian officials. Trump said on Sunday they would arrive for Monday night negotiations, warning the U.S. will resume hostilities if there is no deal. But Iran has dismissed a new round of talks.

Trump on Monday morning told The Hill he disagreed with his Energy secretary’s assessment that gas prices will remain high into next year.

“No, I think he’s wrong on that. Totally wrong,” Trump said in a phone interview. 

In Washington, the Senate is expected to vote on a budget blueprint for a second reconciliation bill that includes funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol. Here’s what to watch this week.
