Live updates: Hegseth holds Iran briefing after Air Force crash kills 4
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will hold a press briefing about the military operation in Iran on Friday morning, the second this week. It comes after a KC-135 refueling aircraft crashed in Iraq on Thursday, killing four of the six service members onboard.
Central Command said rescue efforts were continuing for the remaining two service members as of 5:30 a.m. EST.
Attention in the operations is fixed on the Strait of Hormuz, with U.S. military intervention in the key waterway sparking concerns about rising oil prices amid the conflict in Iran. All of that is amping up political pressure on President Trump.
The partial government shutdown hits the one-month mark on Friday. On Capitol Hill, pressure is growing on senators to hammer out a deal funding the Department of Homeland Security, as thousands of federal employees are at risk of going without pay for a full month.
Trump on Friday heads to Mar-a-Lago after greeting National Finals Rodeo winners at the White House.
