Jon Stewart roasts Trump on Iran talks: ‘It’s sounding like bulls‑‑‑’

Comedian Jon Stewart went after President Trump over comments he made about talks with Iran, saying they sounded “like bulls‑‑‑.”

“So, you didn’t even talk to them?” Stewart said mockingly on “The Daily Show” on Monday after showing a clip of Trump explaining that special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner had talked with the Iranians.

“Your guys, who, quite frankly, don’t seem like top guys, talked to their seemingly, somewhat top guy. Are Jared and Steve sure this is even a real person that they’re talking to?” he asked. “Out of curiosity, did the top Iranian guy ever ask for their Social Security numbers or Target gift cards? Is their top guy’s name by any chance, Ali Bababooey? Because it’s sounding like bulls‑‑‑.”

On Monday, Trump said the U.S. would hold off for five days on attacks on Iran’s energy sites because the nations were having “productive” talks. But he said he had not been in communication with Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, amid negotiations with the Iranians.

“We’re dealing with a man who I believe is the most respected and the leader,” Trump told reporters.

“We have not heard from the son,” he said, talking about the supreme leader, who was elevated to the post after his father, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed by an Israeli strike.

A senior Iranian security official on Monday denied Tehran was having discussions with the U.S. and that the American president “backed down” from attacks on energy infrastructure due to economic and foreign policy pressure.

The U.S. conflict against Iran is nearing the month mark, with many Americans disapproving of the fighting. In a new CBS/YouGov poll, 60 percent were against the conflict and 40 percent were for it.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) on Monday said Trump was “lying” about having discussions with Iranian officials.

“We know he’s lying when he says that the Iranians are talking with us and they’re about to give Donald Trump everything he wants. Yes, that’s a lie,” Van Hollen told host Kasie Hunt on CNN’s “The Arena.”

The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.
