Bondi deflects on legality of sending US citizens to foreign prisons
Attorney General Pam Bondi sidestepped a question about whether President Trump’s openness to holding U.S. citizens in foreign prisons would be legal, instead referencing the potential need for more prisons in the country.
During a meeting with El Salvador President Nayib Bukele on Monday, Trump was asked whether he would consider sending U.S. citizens convicted of violent crimes to El Salvador's most notorious prison, as his administration has done with hundreds of deported immigrants.
Trump said if U.S. citizens committed heinous acts of crime, "I’m all for it.”
In an interview on Fox News Monday night, host Jesse Watters asked Bondi whether that would be "legal."
