Former White House COVID-19 czar Dr. Anthony Fauci told Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) he will not appear for a transcribed interview with the senator’s investigations subcommittee regarding Fauci’s role in the government’s pandemic response. 

In a letter sent to Johnson Friday, Fauci’s attorneys said the infectious diseases expert intends to continue asserting his Fifth Amendment right to decline answering questions that are part of the ongoing GOP-led investigation.  

Any effort to compel his appearance before the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations “would have no legislative purpose and would operate only to impermissibly harass or degrade Dr. Fauci for political purposes,” his attorneys wrote.
