Stirewalt: Both parties should be ‘ashamed’ of ‘incoherent immigration system’

NewsNation’s Chris Stirewalt said Wednesday both parties “should be ashamed” of the state of the country’s immigration system. 

“Both of these parties should be ashamed of the fact that we have an incoherent, ridiculous immigration system in the United States, which, whether you think it should be more permissive or less permissive, whether you think it should be tougher or more lax, it’s been broken for a long time, and everybody knows it,” Stirewalt told host Katie Pavlich on NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports.”

Stirewalt pointed to Senate Republicans blocking a bipartisan immigration bill in 2024. The legislation would have accelerated the screening time for migrants arriving at the border, boosted funding for immigration enforcement agencies and expanded lawful pathways to status.
