Giuliani in critical condition, recovering from pneumonia

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is recovering from pneumonia after being hospitalized Sunday, his spokesperson said in providing an update on Monday about his health.

The spokesperson also said Giuliani’s battle with pneumonia was worsened by a restrictive airway disease he developed during his response to the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on New York City.

Giuliani was serving as New York City’s mayor when the twin towers were hit by planes in an attack orchestrated by al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. Giuliani “ran toward the towers to help those in need, which later led to a diagnosis of restrictive airway disease,” spokesperson Ted Goodman wrote on X.

“This condition adds complications to any respiratory illness, and the virus quickly overwhelmed his body, requiring mechanical ventilation to maintain adequate oxygen and stabilize his condition,” Goodman wrote.

He said Giuliani is breathing on his own........
