Former North Carolina officer charged after video shows woman punched during arrest

SHELBY, N.C. (WJZY) — Karson Hyder, the now-former Shelby, North Carolina, police officer who was fired after video captured on a Ring doorbell camera surfaced of him apparently punching a woman during an arrest, has been charged.

Hyder, 22, turned himself in at 10 a.m. on Monday, according to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. He was charged with assault inflicting serious injury. Court records show he had posted a $10,000 secured bond.

In the video, Hyder appears to strike Cherrie Moore repeatedly. Shelby Police Chief Brad Fraser called the incident “disturbing and unacceptable” before announcing the officer’s termination on Saturday.

Following the encounter, Moore was charged with misdemeanor breaking or entering, resisting a public........
