King Charles to acknowledge differences with US, stress ‘reconciliation and renewal’

King Charles III of Britain will reportedly acknowledge on Tuesday the current strains between London and the Trump administration but plans to emphasize to a joint meeting of Congress the special ties that bind the United Kingdom and United States. 

The king will say “the two countries have always found ways to come together,” according to a preview of his remarks by Buckingham Palace first reported by The New York Times and obtained by The Hill.

In his speech, the king plans to say the past 250 years have been marked by “reconciliation and renewal” between the U.S. and U.K., producing “one of the greatest alliances in human history.”

Charles will point to the challenges facing the world today but emphasize the importance of defending and reaffirming the shared democratic values between the U.K. and U.S., values the king will say can promote security........
