Majority of Republicans support mandatory AI testing: Poll

A majority of Republican voters support policies requiring AI models to undergo independent security testing, according to a new poll released Thursday.

The survey, shared first with The Hill from Americans for Responsible Innovation (ARI), found that 71 percent prefer a mandatory testing process, compared to 17 percent who said AI companies should voluntarily test their models for risks.

Another 12 percent said the technology should be released without prior testing, whether voluntary or mandatory.

This comes as the Trump administration is grappling with how to roll out more advanced models, like Anthropic’s Mythos. The AI firm has said the new model can spot decades-old security vulnerabilities, a capability that can empower both institutions and hackers to spot such flaws more quickly.
