Trump’s policies on toxic chemicals fail all of us — including MAHA 

Americans might not agree on much right now, but they do agree on at least one thing: They don’t want toxic chemicals in their food, water, children’s toys and other everyday products.  

An October 2025 poll from the Environmental Defense Fund found that 92 percent of Americans believe protecting clean air and safe drinking water should be treated as a top public health priority, just like preventing disease. And 82 percent of Americans support the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), the federal law that gives the Environmental Protection Agency authority to evaluate and regulate industrial chemicals in the United States. 

So, it’s alarming that some House Republicans in January introduced a bill that would weaken TSCA, speeding up the time regulators have to review new chemicals and limiting the EPA’s power to restrict dangerous uses.  

Keep in mind this is the same administration that put out “The MAHA [Make America Healthy Again] Report” a few months into President Trump’s second term. The report identified long-term exposure to environmental chemicals — specifically calling out phthalates and PFAS, chemicals widely found in plastics — as one of the main causes of chronic disease in children, underscoring the need to strengthen, rather than gut, federal environmental laws.
