Drag queen Pattie Gonia sounds off on trademark battle with Patagonia
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A drag queen is speaking out against an outdoor clothing company’s lawsuit against her.
In a video shared on Instagram on Wednesday, Pattie Gonia condemned Patagonia’s decision to accuse her of trademark infringement in a federal complaint filed earlier in January. The lawsuit alleged the Bend-based climate activist’s trademark application for her name “directly” competes with the apparel and gear brand’s own products and services.
The complaint states plaintiffs are seeking just $1 in damages, but according to Pattie Gonia — who is also known as Wyn Wiley — the company has threatened to strip her of her drag persona and cost her more than $1 million in legal fees.
