Platner memo cites polling, fundraising to argue sexting scandal won’t slow him in Maine

Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner in a new memo is seeking to reassure his supporters, pointing to his fundraising and high polls to argue he can win the Maine Senate race despite a new sexting scandal that has prompted negative headlines.

Democrats are marshaling support for Platner, a plain-spoken political newcomer challenging longtime Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), as one of their best hopes for flipping a Republican-held seat. Maine voters have elected Collins for five terms straight, but have also voted for Democrats in statewide offices and for president consistently in recent years.

The Platner campaign memo cited a poll from Public Policy Polling, a polling firm affiliated with the Democratic Party, out Wednesday morning that had Platner polling four points above Collins at 49-45, with 6 percent undecided.
