Graham honored with memorial service at US Capitol

Late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who died suddenly on July 11 from an aortic dissection, was honored in a memorial service in the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday morning. 

Senate leaders, including Vice President Vance, who is also president of the Senate, and the leaders of both parties, Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) attended the service alongside many other senators from both parties, members of Graham’s family, Trump administration officials, current and former staff, the South Carolina U.S. House delegation and others, including former lawmakers.

Vance and Thune, along with Rep. Sheri Biggs (R-S.C.), spoke about Graham as a colleague and friend. All mentioned his sense of humor and ability to make others laugh, his staunch support for Israel, Ukraine and broader U.S. national security, and his working relationships with colleagues from both parties on a range of legislation.

Vance homed in on Graham’s defense of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his 2018 confirmation process.
