Senate confirms Trump envoys to UK, Turkey, Italy

The Senate on Tuesday confirmed a trio of President Trump’s ambassadors, who will be stationed in the United Kingdom, Turkey and Italy.

All three new ambassadors — Warren Stephens, Tom Barrack and Tilman Feritta — are billionaires and generous donors to Trump and other Republicans. They all received at least a handful of Democratic votes, along with all Republicans.

The upper chamber confirmed Stephens on Tuesday morning in a 59-39 vote to be the next ambassador to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) on Tuesday morning spoke in support of Stephens, an investment banker from his home state, lauding him as a “family man, businessman, philanthropist and patriot."

“He is the right person to lead our strong, special relationship with the United Kingdom,” Cotton said.

Stephens was President and CEO of Little Rock-based investment banking firm Stephens Inc. until January.
