Katie Hobbs taps former Republican mayor as running mate

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) tapped former GOP Mesa Mayor John Giles as her running mate on Tuesday as the first-term Democrat eyes a reelection bid against Republican Andy Biggs this November. 

“Now, for the first time in our state’s history, we are electing a governor and lieutenant governor on the same ticket, and the first thing I looked for in a running mate was someone who shares that value of putting Arizonans ahead of partisan politics,” Hobbs said in a video announcement. 

“That’s why I’m proud to introduce my running mate, former Mesa Mayor John Giles,” she added.
