Progressive Abdul El-Sayed is projected to defeat Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) in the fiercely fought Michigan Democratic Senate primary to take on former Rep. Mike Rogers (R) for the battleground seat in November, according to Decision Desk HQ.

El-Sayed’s primary victory delivers a blow to the Democratic establishment that lined up behind Stevens in recent weeks. The two Democrats embodied the party’s ongoing fight over the direction of the party in 2026, 2028 and beyond. El-Sayed championed a progressive, populist message while Stevens appealed to the middle lane.

El-Sayed, a former Wayne County health director, was backed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), while Stevens notched support from outgoing Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Michigan Gov. Gretchen........
